Route 48 (our game)

Full disclosure: we made Route 48, so we put it first.

Developer: HOLY STUDIOS. Released: Early Access since 2026. Players: Single-player.

Route 48 is a survival pick. You scavenge for fuel and parts, repair damaged parts, and keep your car in good condition. One screenshot shows the hood open while the player selects the headlight part. Zombies and armed hostile survivors make each stop a risk. Route 48 is in Early Access now.

Simulation: the repair is the job

In these games, there is no hunger and no enemy. You find the fault, replace the part, and get paid. They are the best choice if you want calm, detailed work.

Car Mechanic Simulator 2021

Developer: Red Dot Games. Released: 2021. Players: Single-player.

You run a garage and grow it into a service business. You repair, test, paint, tune, and rebuild cars from an endless list of random orders, plus story missions. Outside the orders, you buy cars at auctions and look for barn finds and junkyards. You can rebuild a project car from a rusty shell and test it on a race track.

It is a good first pick if you are new to repair games. The structure is clear: an order comes in, you test the car, and you repair it. Our list of games like Car Mechanic Simulator has more ideas.

Wrench

Developer: Missing Digit. Released: Early Access since 2018. Players: Single-player or online co-op (beta branch).

Wrench is a mechanic simulator for motorsport. You take apart and repair a highly detailed car, and the fasteners are modeled with real detail. There is no automatic inventory, so you organize the parts yourself. The game has three chassis: one hatchback and two licensed kit cars.

Choose Wrench if you want the most precise repair work on this list. You can play with a keyboard and mouse, or in the optional VR mode.

Car For Sale Simulator 2023

Developer: Red Axe Games. Released: 2024, after Early Access from 2023. Players: Single-player or multiplayer.

You buy used cars and motorcycles, and you negotiate with sellers who may hide problems. You can pay for an inspection report first. Then you repair, maintain, repaint, and customize each vehicle and sell it for a profit. You also manage your dealership, the bank, and taxes.

This is repair with a business goal. It suits players who like to trade cars for profit.

Survival: the repair keeps you alive

In these games, a repair is a survival decision. You find parts in a hostile or cold world. A broken car can cost you the run.

Pacific Drive

Developer: Ironwood Studios. Released: 2024. Players: Single-player.

You drive an old station wagon into a zone full of anomalies, radiation, and storms. On the road, you make repairs and keep the fuel tank full and the panels intact. Back in your garage, you repair and upgrade the car, and you craft new equipment at a fabrication station.

Pacific Drive is one of the best examples of a car as a lifeline. Read games like Pacific Drive for more games of this type.

My Winter Car

Developer: Amistech Games. Released: Early Access since 2025. Players: Single-player.

This is the sequel to My Summer Car. You buy, assemble, repair, and tune an old project car. You can make it a daily driver, a rally or circuit car, or a restored historical vehicle. Survival comes from the cold Finnish winter of 1999: you manage your body temperature, and death is permanent.

The developer says the game is for players who already know My Summer Car. If you are new to the series, start with My Summer Car first.

Drive Beyond Horizons

Developer: Drive Beyond Horizons. Released: Early Access since 2025. Players: Single-player or online co-op (up to 4).

You drive and maintain a customizable vehicle in a procedurally generated world that changes each run. You search buildings for vehicle parts, and some buildings are empty. Weather and a day-night cycle add pressure.

It suits players who want survival repairs with friends, in separate cars or in one shared car.

Road trip: the repair lets the trip continue

In these games, the car carries you across a long road. You repair it on the way, often far from help. The trip is the reward.

Jalopy

Developer: Minskworks. Released: 2018. Players: Single-player.

You drive an old Laika 601 Deluxe through countries of the former Eastern Bloc. You repair the tires, the engine, and the carburettor, and you refuel the car. You also manage the space in the trunk. The world is procedurally generated, and you can smuggle goods past border patrols for extra money.

Jalopy is the classic old-car road trip. See games like Jalopy if you want more.

Keep Driving

Developer: YCJY Games. Released: 2025. Players: Single-player.

Keep Driving is a management RPG about a road trip to a festival across the country. You repair, upgrade, and customize your car, and you pick up hitchhikers with their own stories. Problems on the road use a turn-based "combat" system in a procedurally generated pixel-art world.

The car work is lighter here. It suits players who want repair as one part of a story trip.

The Long Drive

Developer: Genesz. Released: Early Access since 2019. Players: Single-player.

You drive across a randomly generated desert that is almost endless. Car maintenance and survival are light, and a full tank lasts a long distance. There are no invisible walls.

The Long Drive suits players who want a calm drive with some car care, and no fixed goal.
